CLP 2.0 Do you see any practical applications for LibraryThing either at home or at work? Will you start using this site?

I had a look at this site after taking the tour and found it too busy with way too much going on at one time on the screen. I doubt I will ever look at it again as Facebook has a Visual bookshelf if I really wanted to keep track of everything I read. These things just seem to be more and more of the same things with their own twist but ultimately just filling up the cyberspace.
If I were looking for a book and a review on a book....I'd use amazon or google it and go to the author's site or some other link. Our own elibrary has more useful info...ie NoveList.

CPL 2.0 • Why do you think social networking sites are so popular? What are the main appeal factors?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissism
To answer the Question about social networking sites in one word ......Narcissism.

The above link will give you a full explanation of this trait that is effecting people of all ages and all walks of life. Blogging also serves this phenomena.

It's a world of "look at me, look at my pictures, look at how many friends I have, look at the games I am playing, look at what I am doing, look at what I am doing now, this is what I think"....yadayadayada.

Get this...

I've travelled the world twice over,
Met the famous:  saints and sinners,
Poets and artists, kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners,
I've been where no-one's been before,
Learned secrets from writes and cooks
All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books.

What are you reading?

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly........................................  This is an amazing story of a boy who hears books whisper and travels to another land with similarities to many familiar fairy tales.

What do you hope to learn from CPL 2.0?

This promises to be a fun training module...I'm already having fun with it. I hope to become more accomplished with the applications we will be following during this time and I hope to learn something new along the way too. Maybe I will.
It would be nice to see a posting of all the blogs, twitters and wiki creations and such of my fellow co-workers so that we could perhaps learn from what others are learning as well as all the discoveries that we will be making on our own adventures through these techno-travels.
And winning an I-pod would be a lovely bonus.....
